London, January 7.
The Daily News, 'referring 'to the political situation says “if we cannot put Mr John Redmond into Bryce's place in the Government which he, of all men is the fittest to occupy, we ought to choose no weak or inconspicuous figure nor man comparing with Mr Wyndham and distinguished Tory statesmen who graduated there. The Ministry in other departments requires strengthening, Lord Elgin should be relieved of his position for which he lias never shown fitness, The Liberals, it adds, are anxiously watched at many danger points. The South African policy of Lord Elgin has not pleased the colonies, and we afraid that the absurd restrictions on the number of Premiers attending the Colonial Conference lias done much harm. The same applies" to ins Treatment of Australasia in the matter of the Mew Hebrides.
