Tfigh Commissioner’s Report. Per Press Association. Wellington, January 7-. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, January 5 : i ; ■ The mutton market is dull, and there is only a small supply of Hew Zealand on hand. Canterbury brands are quoted at 4jd and North Island at 4Jd I , per lb. i: River Plate mutton is quoted at 3-Jd ! per lb. ■Stocks of lamb on hand arc heavy iaad widely distributed amongst agents, "who are pushing sales. Australian lamb is quoted at 5d per lb. The beef market is steady, and there is a good demand for Hew Zealand beef, which is quoted at 3|d and 3f d for hinds and fores respeetively. There are heavy supplies of butter on hand and the market is dull. Some i- holders are forcing sales, and butter ! buyers are holding back expecting i • prices to go lower. Choice Hew Zealand is quoted at 108 s, Argentine 107 s, Australian 102 s. Danish is steady at 1225,

The cheese market is firm, with improved demand. New Zealand brands *re quoted at 62s per ewt. The hemp market is quiet but steady. •Good fair grade on spot is quoted at -£3S 10s and January-March shipments at £37 5s per ton. Fair current Manila on spot is worth £42 per ton. Cocksfoot is firm, and there is a fair demand forjbetter grades. Bright 171 b seed, 47s per cwt. There is only a small supply of N.Z. wheat on hand. Long and short berried, 29s 6d and 28s 6d respectively per 4S6lbs, ex granary. N.Z. oats are quiet but firm. Sparrowbills 25s per 3841 b», Danish 10s per 3201b5, ex granary. beans, 32s 6d per 504ibs on a quiet market. N.Z. Partridge peas are firm at 40s Y per 5041b5.

The wool market remains firm.

Atkinson and Co. report : —At our Feilding sale there was a fair entry of pigs.. Competition was slack and prices easier. The poultry entry was small, and quality inferior. A large quantity of general produce came to hand. New potatoes continue to ease off.
