AMUSING SCENE IN A THEATRE.
There is a tall man in Liverpool who is so tall that when he is sitting down people imagine that he is standing up. One evening this very tall man went to the theatre and took a prominent seat in the stalls. Before the curtain rose, a cry of “ Sit down in the front ” became general in the pit. The tall man, finding the eyes of the general audience turned towards him, felt obliged to do. something,' and so he proceeded to raise himself to a standing position, in such a manner, however, as to convey an impression that there was no end of him.
He was, in fact, nearly seven feet high, and when at least he had risen to his full height he glanced around at the audience and remarked, “ Gentleman, to satisfy you that I was sitting down I now stand up.” A burst of laughter and applause followed, amidst which the manager with beaming face came forward and conducted the gentleman to a private box.
