DISTURBED RUSSIA.
A Prefect Assassinated. Per Press Association—By Bleetrio Telegraph Copyright. London, January 8. Reuter’s Agency reports that General cler Launitz, Prefect of St Petersburg, has been assassinated. Another report states that the prefect was shot dead during the consecration of a new building. St: Petersbuhg, January 4. It has been ascertained that an unknown assassin fired six shots at General Von der Launitz, killing himself with tile seventh.

The Terrorists at Lodz threaten tp murder all workmen resuming work'. The military authorities refused to detail soldiers to guard the banks, and the bankers threaten to close. The large cotton manufacturers threaten to transfer their mills to the interior af Russia unless the workmen accept all their conditions. The Commission of Enquiry recommended the prosecution of General Zourko in connection with the grain scandals. A gang of revolutionaries at Warsaw killed two gendarmes in the street. The gendarmes in barracks rushed out and killed a pedestrian and wounded three others,,
