A WILY TURK.

A Paris shoplifter with novel methods has been made to disgorge £l4O worth of pearls that he had swallowed in a jeweller’s shop. He was a Turkish gentleman, and said he wanted a pearl necklace, for which he was willing to pay 2500d015., as a gift to his fiancee. The assistant noticed that he seemed to be licking the pearls of one necklace he was examining. It was then discovered that the cord of another necklace had been bitten through. The Turk was arrested and searched, but no pearls were found on him. He was then taken before a magistrate, who ordered an emetic to be administered. The wily Turk was found to have swallowed two fine pearls, worth £BO and £6O.
