MANUREWA BUILDINGS.
"THE ABSOLUTE LIMIT." «, A NEW HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT.
How a sympathetic, local body had been taken in by an enterprising individual who had his own ideas of overcoming the house shortage, was the subject of a lament at the Manu-re-wa Town Board meeting last Monday evening. It appears that an optimist from Otahuhu had some time previously put in an application to the Board to build a little shanty to house his family for a few weeks while lie proceeded to erect a paternal mansion. • He' explained that a cruel landlord had ousted him from a house at Otahuhu and, that he could not allow his family to perish in the open air. The Board, overcome with sympathy, hastened to assure the gentle leg-puller that he could erect his temporary abode. He did so. and in a style which staggered the (ownship. With timber going up steadily he set to work quite undaunted and! built an edifice out of the sides of benzine boxes anil, greatest ar-i chitectural triumph ol' all, added a chimney built of empty kcro- :
seno tins. Peopie who lived in ordinary commonplace bungalows or average six •roomed villas "began to complain to the Board, but whether from motives of .jealousy is not known. Thus it was that flic dignitaries of the Board spent quite a
'little time discussing this onterpn'siny builder at their meeting on Monday. Mr. Smith started the ball rolling by asking the members if they had seen the "elaborate building" which had been erected contrary to the bylaws. Mr Kin:; murmured that he had Seen the building, which had spoilt so many good benzine eases and kerosene tins. The Chairman of the Board (Mr. Corin) said that this Individual, had gone the absolute limit. He was beyond the pale. He had defied the Boajrd and was now calmly building another benzine box shanty. The matter was discussed at some length and certainly the remarks made, were neither flattering nor complimentary to this unique builder. , finally the disillusioned Board decided that 'the building inspector be instructed to inspect the objects of interest and take full action in the matter of compelling compliance with the by-laws.
