BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY.
— PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN. ANALYSIS TO BE MADE. Tlie advisability of taking steps to safeguard the water supply from risk of contamination was urged by the District Health Officer, Dr T. J. Hughes, at Wednesday’s meeting of the Borough Council. He directed the Council’s attention to the fact that it was the local authority’s duty to take all necessary steps in the direction indica ted, and for taking steps to safeguard the health of the public supplied by such water supply. In order to do tills it was necessary for the Council to have analyses of such water carried out at regular periods, at least every si* months Steps were required to be taken to prevent access of surface draining and any other pollution of the source of supply. The period of storage of/ such water in the reservoir was but short, and therefore necessitated care that the source of supply was above suspicion, and this could only be done by regular examination. The waterworks engineer stated that the water was analysed about three years ago. Cr. Bilkey moved that the reques bo (given eti'cct to.—Carried.
