TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.

TUESDAY NIGHT’S MEETING. Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the Tnakau Town Hoard was held on Tuesday cvoiding, when there were present: Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), W. J. Taylor, C. T'inch, Jas. Pirret, G. Arrowsmith, J. H. Sim, G. S. Lapwood, and the Clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper). £12,000 Tuakau Special Loan. Tho State Advances Office intimated that tho Minister of Finance had, in terms of tho Finance Act, 1920, given Ms precedent consent to the raising of the balance, £3OOO, of the £12,000 Tuakau Special Loan, at a rate of interest not exceeding s’i per cent, per annum.—Received. Application to Open Footpath. Application was made by Mr W. J. Decide for permission to lay pipes along tho footpath (n Harrisvllle Road for the purpose of carrying storm water from his property.-—Per-mission was granted subject to the work being completed to the satisfaction of the Board. Saturday Half Holiday. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the Hoard on Tuesday, January 18th, at 8 p.m., for the purpose of fixing tho stautory half holiday for the ensuing year. Town Hall Loan.

In reply to the Board’s application for permission of the Minister of .Finance to the raising, at tho rate of 1 5 J a per cent, instead of 5V4 percent. as already approved of the Tuakau i Town Board loan of £7OOO for the purpose of erecting a Municipal Hall, the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. 'W. F. Massey), stated that he was arrang--1 ing for the Board’s request to be looked fin to, and would reply at a later date.—Received. The Clerk was instructed to communicate witli Mr Massey (member for Franklin), ask- ! ing him to use his best endeavours to raise the money on behalf of the Board. Licenses. Auctioneers’ licenses were granted Mr Cedric William l-3i.1l for Messrs Alfred Bucldand and Sons; Mr Samuel K. S. Tipping, for Messrs Dalgety and Co. : and Mr Norman Somerfield, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. — The Clerk was instructed tp write and thank eack firm for taking out a Jicense with the Board. A lodging-house-keeper’s license was granted Mr A. J. Prescott (Tuakau), and a Public Hall license to Mr Geo. Revcll. Works in Georye Street. (More (Honey Required. The chairman and clerk were instructed to make application for the balance of the £ISOO Government gran, ’£ for £, for woi'k on George Street from the railway station to the Board’s boundary, amounting to £SOO. New Health Act. Consideration of the new Health Act, which came into force on January Ist, was deferred until Tuesday next, January 18th. Doy Tax.

On the motion of Messrs Taylor Arrowsimth, the cloy tax for .1921 was fixed at 2s 6d for cattle cloys, kept solely for the purpose of hering or driving sheep or cattle, and 5s for all other dogs;, same to be payable on or before February 20th, 1921. I It was reported that Goraghly’s bridge, at the foot of Harrisvillc Hill, was becoming, shaky. The EnEnginccr is to inspect the bridge, and report on same. Unpaid Rates. The Clerk was .empowered to enforce th,c usual 10 per cent, penalty on all rates unpaid after January Kith. Geraghty’s Water Raue. The Board’s attention was drawn to the unsatisfactory state of the crostUng over Ccraghty’s water race, and the Clerk was instructed to request Mr Gcraghty to effect immediate repairs. Tar Scaling George Street.

The question of tar sealing' George Street, from Pirret’s corner, was introduced by Mr Sim, and on his motion the Engineer is to meet the Works Committee for the purpose of discussing the advisability of doing the work. Finance. Accounts amounting to 1:262 4s Cd were passed for payment. The overdraft of the General Account was shown at £035 Os 7d, and overdraft of the loan account at £49 Ms lid.
