Speaking at Bunnythorpe at a ceremony of unveiling a memorial 10 deceased soldiers, the Minister for Lands (the Hon. D. H. Guthrie) said that the record of New Zealand in providing comforts for soldiers in the late war was a proud one (states a Wanganui exchange). The sum of £0,848,000 was provide! to supply comforts, a total of £5 11/1 for each man, woman and child of the Dominion. After the battle of Jutland a sum of money was raised for the assistance of dependents of the sailors killed in that action and of the total amount donated New Zealand contributed SO per cent.

Health Act. A local authority is empowered to make by-laws defining areas in its district within which it shall be unlawful to establish or maintain stables, cow sheds, or piggeries. The Board of Health may direct such areas to bo defined. No cattle sale-yard may be established without the consent of the local authority and the Medical Officer of Healh. Provision is made for the registration of cattle yards, and no premises must be used as cattle sale-yards unless registered.
