POPULAR OFFICERS FAREWELLED.
PUKEKOHE WEST TRIBUTE. Two popular Salvation Army officers in Captain Jenkins and Lieutenant Rawcliffe, who are shortly leaving this district were accorded a farewell function in the Union Hall, Pukekohe West, by the residents on Thursday evening last. During their short stay in Pukekohe the departing officers endeared themselves to all, and regret was expressed on all sides at the announcement of their departure. That they have done excellent work is a widely known fact. They intend carrying on their duties at Taurauga until about August next when Captain Jenkins will prepare to proceed to India in connection with missionary work there.
The Union Hall was tastefully decorated with flowers, while the word " Farewell " was emblazoned on a streamer hanging over the stage. There was a large attendance, which signified that both officers were held in high esteem by the people. On behalf of the residents Messrs J- Frater and D. Hill wished both success and happiness in the future.
Captain Jenkins, in responding, said that they had enjoyed their stay at Pukekohe, the people being exceptionally kind to them, for which they owed many thanks.
During the evening items rendered by Misses Mavis Hill, Violet Steenson, V. Foster, Captain Jenkins, Mrs Adams, Mrs Foster, Mrs Palmer, Captain Palmer, Messrs J.Foster, J. Steenson, A. Adams, Masters B. Hill, j. Foster, and Keith Matthews were well received.
Supper was dispensed by the ladies, and duly appreciated. The rendering of "Auld Lang Syne'' and the National Anthem terminated a successful function.
Captain Jenkins and Lieut. Ruwciiffe will be succeeded by Captain and Mrs Rotherham.
