The usual monthly meeting of the Manukau. County Council will take place on Tuesday January 11th. * This year Good Friday falls on March 25th and Easter Monday on March 28th. A most enjoyable social and dance was held in the Premier Hall on New Year's Eve, when a large attendance danced the old year out and the New Year in. Excellent dance music was supplied by Mr and Mrs Jas. Harriman, extras being contributed by Misses Waring and Zinzan. Messrs; G. Flavell, A. White and W. Short proved efficient M's.C.

Under the Arms Act f920 all persons in possession of fire arms are requested to register same immediately. The local registrar is Sergeant Cowan and those interested should note that an officer will be in attendance at the police station .daily between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. All automatic weapons including revolvers are to be handed in.

The Ponsonby Boys Bras 8 Band under Conductor Fred CI. Lawn, which is touring the North island, rendered a most suitable musical programme at Pukekohe on Sunday last, which was appreciated by a fairly large attendance. On Sunday evening at the bottom of King Street another programme was excellently rendered and duly appreciated.

When it comes to the question of maintaining the navy I hope the good sense of tho Anglo-Saxon people will be uppermost and they will be prepared to maintain the navy even &i personal sacrifice."

On Christmas Eve a pleasant function took place at Messrs I Frank Perkins and Co's premises, when the staff met Mr Perkins and on their behalf Mr D. Clarkson presented the head of the firm with a handsome diningroom carpet as a mark of the esteem in which he was held. Mr Clarkson referred to the good feeling that has always existed between Mr Perkins and staff. In responding Mr Perkins heartily thanked the donors far their handsome present and stated that everyone realised that a businessman required the assistance of his staff to conduct a business successfully. He had the whole - hearted co-operation of his staff and the success of his large business was mainly due to this. "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow " was rendered, after which the recipient's health was drunk. Mr Perkins then presented each member of his staff with a cheque, wishing each the compliments of the season.
