Trade has never been better in Pukekohe, money is rather plentiful, ant the prospects for the New Year, which is near at hand, appear verj bright. Although there have been n< outward signs of the Christmas rus yet, the local storekeepers and othe tiadesmen are being kept exceptionally busy to cope with the demand, and from all accounts the turn'ovc' • for the year has been a record. TfiV Farmers' Union Trading' Company under the managership of Mr. B. G. Russell, which only a few months age occupied Mr. W. Roulston's up-to-date establishment, .has built up a huge business, and it is now one of the largest concerns in the Waikato. The turnover has been phenomenal, much in excess of the business of the previous year. There has been a tremendous increase in all departments for every month since the Farmers' Union Trading Company assumed the reins of control; in some cases the tunfovOf hay increased three andjtourfold. We can vouch for the truth of this, haying seen actual figures for ourselves. Messrs. Frank Perkins and Co. also report a tremendous increase yi* the year's turnover. That Pukckonc is becoming a huge business centre h an established fact. This time of the year is the period for shopping, and a glance at these brief descriptions no doubt will afford many seasonable suggestions.

Farmers' Union.
We mention the Farmers' Unjo'n Company's establishment, opposite the 1 post office, first because it !s the largest concern here, because it is a business conducted by. farmers, and because the store is situated in at f aiming community. Throughput every month of the year the firnvpossesses an attraction for,|the buying public from every peifit of view. Every department is filled with good value articles, and whatever is desired in the home or on the farm -an be obtained thereaf. For seasonable presents the firm has a large selection of all kinds of leather goods, electroplate, cut-glass, English confectionery, Christmas stockings, crockery, drapery, boots, toys for the kiddies, while 41 special feature for the juveniles will be the bran tvb.f Messrs. The> well-known firm of F. Perkins and.Co. runs a goW second to the above as a universal store. Everything throughout the establishment is based on providing value for money received, and whatever is required for Christmas and New Year can be obtained promptly. The premises are packed from floors to ceilings with all seasonable goods. The past year has bee.n a most successful one, every department showing an increased turnover. The firm has just received large shipments of drapery, per the Opawa and Otira, but is so busy that it is doubtful whether these first-class goods can be exhibited before the New Year. Messrs. Perkins and Co. have got everything any man, woman, or child will require, whether it is furniture, or furnishings, or drapery, clothing and boot needs. The Chistmas cakes made on the premises rare an outstanding feature, while hams £>?k>re should meet ready sale. Visitors to Pukekohe during the week are advised to visit this place, and they will be well .pleased if they make it their shopping headquarters. »The premises, as usual, will be decorated with greenery. Mr W. T. Jones, saddler, has :an exceptionally wide range of leathei jcoda to pick and choose from. Realising, the requirements of the public, Mi. Jones obtained a large quantity of. tennis racquets and requisites, a fine line of baby swings, leathei purses, stock saddles and bridles, blocked leggings, music cases, ami leather motor gloves, all of ,which make exceptionally good presents. The Bookery.
For many years past The Bookery has been to the front with everything in the toy line, and this year the has_becn fortunate ii. securing exceptionally large stocks of dolls, teddy bears, teasets, motorcars, scooters, tricycles, trains, and a host of other toys too numerous to enumerate for the children. The Bookery is the headquarters of Santa Ciaus, and to make room for the rush Mr. Cannell has considerably enlarged his premises. Suitable presents include hand and art bags, wallets, leather cases, fountain pens, antimony vases, crockery ware and brushes of all descriptions.
