GYMKHANA AND FLORAL FETE.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.

With the object of augmenting the building fund of the Franklin A. and P. Society, a gymkhana and floral fete was held on the Show Grounds on Saturday in glorious weather. The function was a complete success from every point of view, due to the work of the officials and the energetic secretary, Mr. D. R. Hamilton, and his committee, which worked assiduously throughout. There was a large attendance, estimated at about 2000. The sports programme was well contested, the horse and foot events creating considerable interest. The" star attraction was the floral fete, motor-cars, waggons, motor, lorries, gigs, and horses being % tastcfully decorated, while a unique decoration was .the pets, which included a donkey and a pig. Great credit is due to the stewards who were in charge of the various events, and the good direction was mainly due to their untiring efforts. As 'a result of the gathering the building fund should receive a beneficial lift. Results arc as follows: - SOYds. Bovs' Race, under 12. A. Gordon 1, A*. Donald 2. During the afternoon a number of selections were rendered by the Ponsenby Boys'* Brass Band, under Conductor Lawn, and proceedings were enlivened considerably. band will pay Pukekohe another visit on January 2, on a tour of the North Island.
