BUCKLAND BAZAAR.

AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS.

With the object of augmentii g the funds of St. Paul's Church, Buckland, a grand bazaar and sale of work was held in the Public Hall on Saturday last. Tn spite of the inciemem weather there was a large attendance of those interested, both in the afternoon and evening. The hall was tastefully decorated with palms and ferns. On the whole a very attractive appearance was presented. That the energetic secretary, Mr. W. Richings, had elaborate arrangements complete, was verified by the manner in which everything was conducted, not a hitch occuring throughout. Various stalls were situated round the hall, and thereat brisk business was conducted. The stalls and stallholders were:—Cake stall, Mrs. King: fancy and plain stall, Mesdames Loft and Todd; strawberry and (ream, Mesdames Wright and Richings; produce, Messrs. Carter and Wilcox; Christmas tree, Mrs. Stringer. The bazaar was officially opened in the afternoon by the Mayor of Pukekohe, Mr. C. K. Lawrie. Mr. H. Wilcox, the district's representative on the Franklin County Council, introduced Mr. Lawrie. He expressed regret at the state of the weather, and thanked all who had braved elements to make the function a success.

Mr. Lawrie, in declaring the bazaar open, congratulated the promoters, and trusted their efforts would be ciowned with success. The cause was a worthy one, deserving of the verybest they could give. He urged them to pull together, and the object they set out to overtake would be achieved. It gave his great pleasure to decline the bazaar open. ,

In the evening nail-driving, sawing, line l other competitions, both for Indies and gentlemen, were held. As a resulf of the function it is expected the committee will nett about £BO, which is considered very satisfactory indeed. At the conclusion of the bazaar, Mr A. F.
