FLORICULTURE IN FRANKLIN.

Within lesx Hum three months the Franklin A. and P. Society's annual autumn show will be held; the two local flower shows held under the auspices of the Anglican and Presbyterian Churches, respectively, arc past for this year,-and therefore the time is opportune for the discussion of a policy which we have bad in mind but have refrained from voicing out of consideration for the interests of those parties affected. Wc believe that the Franklin A. and IV [society should seriously consider the advisability of conducting a Mower show as a department of its autumn >h>\v. Hitherto, since the defunction of the lociil Horticultural Society, liower shows, very creditable in their way, have been conducted by the churches abovenamed, but to the lover of flowers it has been quite apparent that the main purpose; of these fixtures has been, not so much tu encourage the cultivation of flowers as to raise funds for quite other purposes. . Thougli this proceeding is quite legitimate, and the funds have always been, devoted to worthy ends, it does not appear that the best interests of horticulture, or more particularly floriculture, have been served thereby. To revive the old society would hardly be a practicable proposiUon. since buildings and i-.|<iij>-ment would either have to he hired i or purchased, but the Franklin A. and I'. Society has the buildings and the I stall', and probably could handle the' dcp.irtuieiit more cheaply and effectively than any other body. The suggestion \a thrown out for what it is worth, but we hope that it will at least be fully and frankly discussed by the, society's executive.
