BOWLING.

ANZAC CUP COMPETITION.

PUKEKOHE DEFEATS WEST END.

BY ONE POINT. On Saturday last rinks from the West End Bowling Club visited Pukekohe to compete for the Anzac Cup, a handsome silver cup donated by Messrs. "Toney" Tonkin (West End), A. B. Barter, formerly of Pukekohe, and Ivan A. Motion, of Pukekohe, for competition between the West End and Pukekohe Bowling Clubs. Mr. Jas. Roulston, president of the local club, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and trusted they would spend an enjoyable afternoon. Games were then indulged in, and resulted in a victory for Pukekohe by the narrow margin of one point. C. Harding (West End) defeated R. Fitness by two points, and Duncan Roulston defeated Tonkin (West End) by a single point. The game between Leatham and Armstrong, which was somewhat behind the two former games, attracted considerable interest, because it deoendd on this result as to the future destination of the cup for a few months at least. On the 24th head Armstrong had a lead of one point, and the aggregate showed the teams to be 63 all. The final head proved very exciting. When the two ?kips walked back to play their two howls Armstrong was four down and did not have a single bowl on the green. Leatham played a back bowl, and Armstrong, amid applause, drew the shot close to the "jack." Leatham had one bowl left,, and several chances, either to draw the shot, take Armstrong's shot bowl out to drive the jack into the ditch. He drove, but the bowl went wide, and Armstrong 'thus won his game and the cup for Pukekohe. The teams and scores are: West End mentioned first in each case:—McKeown, McMillan, Morley, C. Harding (s.) 22 v. Waters, Wilson C. Bonner, senr., R. Fitness (s.) 20; Cornwall, Court, Little, Tonkin (s.) 22 v. Wright, Perkins, Jos Adams, Duncan Roulston (s.) 23; Aitchison, A. Morews, Hardley, Leatham (s.) 19, v. Dave Roulston, H. Bockett, Jas Roulston, G. Armstrong (s.) 21. Totals: West End, 63; Pukekohe, 64.

INTER-CLUB GAMES

Liltlejohn, G. Blake, Daysh, Keith (s.) 11 lost to Wynward's rink (West End) 25; Crosbie, Butler, Lawrie, C. Clarke (s.) 31, beat White's rink (Yest End) 11. At the conclusion of the match, Mr Tonkin, on behalf of the West End Club, congratulated the winners on their success. He thanked them for the hospitality extended, which had been greatly appreciated. He then presented the cup to the winnrs. Cheers were then given by the losers for the winners, president, and the ladies. Mr. Jas. Roulston returned thanks, and hoped many more pleasant games would be played between the teams. Cheers were then given for West End, and Mr Tonkin. Afternoon tea, provided by the ladies, was duly appreciated.
