A PICKER.
A candidate for assistance at a Sslvation Army refuge, being asked to state his occupation, replied that he was a "picker." The official, failing to understand the reference, pressed for an explanation. "It's like this, g&v'nor," answered the man, "In July I picks strawberries; in August I picks peas; in winter I picks pockets—and for the rest of the year I picks oakum."
