The risk taken by people who go up in aeroplanes is less than timid people imagine. Statistics for the first year of the London-Paris air services completed in August show that 15355 scheduled flights, 14,444 were completed, 323,355 miles being covered. There were no' crashes or fatalities, only 83 journeys were prevented by weather, six were prevented by mechanical defect, and 30 were temporarily interrupted by compulsory descent en route. The efficiency in round numbers works out at 94 per cent.
