ST. ANDREW'S FLOWER SHOW.

AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS.

CHURCH FUNDS AUGMENTED

The Rose and Sweet Pea Show held under the auspices of St. Andrew's Church was concluded on Saturday evening, when there was a record attendance. As a result of the show the Church fund should be augmented to the extent of about £250. On Friday the show was officially opened by the Mayor, Mr. C. K. Lawrie, who congratulated the committee on the manner in which the exhibits had been staged. Mr. Lawrie wished the committee success in its undertaking. The Judges. The following judges officiated: — Flowers, fruit and vegetables.—Mr. E. Allan. Home Products.—Mrs. G. Weston. Industrial Classes.—Mesdames Munn and Meiklejohn. Floral Artistry.—Mrs. CampbellSmith. Art Needlework.—Mesdames Wily and Scott. Technical School Work. —Mr. W. I. Cumberland. Stall Holders.

Various stalls were situated in different parts of the buildings, and thereat excellent business was transacted. The stalls were somewhat attractive, being exquisitely decorated with flowers and greenery. The names of the stalls and stall holders are as follow: —

Flapper Stall.—Misses Mavis Brown, Ivy Berriman and Amy Kensington. Cake Stall.—Mesdames R. F. Wilkinson, L. Bayly, J. P. Cowie, and Miss Hardy. Pound Stall—Mesdames J. F. McArthur, N. L. Higginson and S. D, Munn.

Produce Stall.—Mesdames H. Dell, J. J. Hart, J. W. Johns and Zinzan. Christmas Tree.—Mesdames H, H Pattle, A. Campbell-Smith, and Mis: Hamlin.

The Orchestra.

An orchestra, consisting of Miss Penman (piano), Mrs. G. H. Armstrong, Misses Churches, F. Hewlett, M. Wood, Messrs. J. Harriman C. Deed, J. G. Russell, H. T. Middlemiss, L. Middlemiss, W. Wilson (violins), Bear (double bass) and Murgatroyd ('cello), rendered an excellent programme of musical items on both Friday and Saturday evenings, thus enlivening- proceedings considerably.

Tug-of-War.

On Friday evening the farmers' team defeated the railway team in two pulls. The contest on Saturday evening between the firemen and farmers attracted much interest. In the first pull the firemen won in 2min 35 sec. The second pull lasted 20min. 40sec., when the fiemen had an advanr tage of about 2ft. 6in. A drawn verdict was given, and the contest will be completed at some future date.

THE SPORTS. There was an attendance of between 700 and 750 at the sports .held on the Show Grounds in conjunction with the flower show on Saturday. The sports passed off highly successfully, due to the energetic sports secretary, Mr. Jack Brown, and his committee, who had arrangements complete. Results are as follow: — Boys' Race, under seven: McNally I, Wallace Brown 2.

The show A'ls an unqualified success from every point of view, and the secretaries, Messrs A. F. Brown and S. D. Munn, are deserving of a special word of praise for the manner in which they carried out their duties.
