TUAKAU. MERI TOR lOUS PERFORM ANC E. A record house greeted Mr. T Scoble Cornish's two original plav s which were staged in Tuakau in aid of the local tennis club. In "Her Castles in Spain," a sparkling little comedy, in which the suppositious castles materialised at the very last moment of the eleventh hour, Mr. ('•Ornish's company of amateurs did remarkable well. Mrs. A. Allen as

""Mrs Riversdale." the impecunious widow, was admirable. Mrs. Cornish, in her interpretation of Miss Randolph, the fus-v maiden aunt, showed a finished piece of acting. Mrs. Riley Taylor as Betty Riversdale was really most excellent, and as much may bo said of Miss McNought as Gwendoline. and Miss M- Cathcart as the much repressed niece of Miss Randolph, played her part well, while Mis McNought as Jane made a charming soubrcttc. The part of the butler, James, was played to perfection by Mr. Cornish, and much praise is duo to the manner in which Mr. RilevTaylor as Count Sequain, and Mr. Allen as Captain Douglas acted their part and completed the caste of a very excellent little amateur company. In the musical interlude that followed songs were rendered by Mesdrmes Tapper and R. Crawford, and, Messrs. Mark, Peat and Cornish. Mr Cornish's song, "I'll Sing Thee Songs of Arabv," was interpolated with a delightful Eastern dance by four ladies of the company. The artistic costumes and coloured lights combined with the graceful dancing mada up a picture not easily surpassed. "The Roll of the Drum," a screaming farce, followed. In this Mrs. Cornish bore the main brunt of the acting, and gave conclusive proof of her marvellous versatility as the flirty old maid. Mrs. Riley Taylor was a particularly charming Molly Earl. MiMark as the embryo soldier was undoubtedly good, while Mr. Riley Tay-

lor as Captain Laurence well earned the appreciation of the audience. A dance followed the entertainment, Messrs. Roberts, Parsons and Lee acting as M's.C.' The evening's entertainment was unanimously considered the best that has ever been held in Tuakau, and many thanks are due to Mr. Scoble Cornish and Company for the effort they made to assist "the local tennis club.
