THE BOROUGH GUESTS.
COMING MINISTERIAL VISIT.
COST OF ENTERTAINMENT
COUNCIL MEMBERS GENEROUS
A deputation consisting of Messrs. Frank Perkins and A. Fred. Brown, represent ing the School Committee, waited on the council and solicited monetary assistance for the purpose of entertaining Ministers of the Cvown ancj members'of the Education Board on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the newly-erected Technical High School at Pukekohe on Fcbrunrv 5.
Mr. Perkins stated they "wanted to make the day a "red letter" one as far as the district was concerned. They wanted £3O from the Borough Council and £3O from the CountyCouncil, while the School Committee would do its share.
It was pointed out that the school Wrfis one of the finest in the Dominion. and the first of its kind in the North Island. In view of the fact that the council bad contributed £SO towards the war memorial to fallen soldiers, it was considered doubtful if the council could legally contribute anything out of the general account, as it was only allowed to expend £SO as unauthorised expenditure. Cr. Armstrong said if they could not legally make a donation the councillors as a council should find the money. He set the ball rolling by intimating his intention of subscribing his^quota. Crs. Daysh, McGough, and the Mayor followed Cr. Armstrong's lead, rnd Mr.'Perkins also offered to donate £lO.
On the motion of the Mayor and Cr. Daysh. it was decided to donate £3O. and if the council could not legally accede to the request, the councillors individually would fiiffl the monev.
