Lupton, E. S. Pegler, M. D. King, W. T. Cox, G. Smith, G. Ga!laher,. and H. Kay (clerk). Minor details regarding the ejection of 4 the war memorial weie discussed. It was decided, on the motion of tthe chairman, scconled by Mr. Cox, that the Memorial Committee be given power to erect the war memorial on the corner of the footpath outside the school yrourtds.
A considerable amount of discussion resulted over a letter from the Tennis Club requestirg that the beard provide materials for improvements to the tennis courts, the members of the club providing the necessnry labour. Mr. King and Mr. Smith objected to the granting of the request, the former pointing out that the various athletic institutions ,had grounds in different parts of ithe town. If money was to be spent: for recreation purpose, he would like to see it concentrated on one central situation. Other members, howeyer. were of the opinion that in view of the fact that the Tennis Club had already considerably improved the property, and in consideration of their willingness to assist themselves, the request should be complied with. It was resolved that the board pay for the materials at a cost of not more than £lO, Messrs. Smith and King dissenting.
Roading Machinery.
Correspondence was received regarding road-making machinery. Members agreed that in view of the future activity in this direction the jboard should make some provision for the purchase of plant. It was decided that the Works Committee be empowered to purchase a road grader and a wheeled scoop. Information was received to the effect that the War Trophies' Distribution Committee had allocated a ma-chine-gun to Manurewa. It was suggested that this be placed in a glass case and exhibited at the base of the war memorial. The matter was left to the War Memorial Committee to ileal with.
As the outcome of information received from the Prime Minister, it was decided that the board take steps to obtain the sanction of the '.•atepayers for the raising of a loan for the purpose of erecting two dwellings for occupation by the board's employees.
