" WASH-UP" MEETING. The final meeting of the presen; Franklin County Council was held 01 Friday last, when there were presen Crs. W. Claud Motion (chairman), W. Woods, H. Wilcox, W. H. Thoma;, T. J. Lockwood, J. S. Montgomeri?, J 'A. Short, Jas. Keith, together with the clerk, Mr. Alan P. Day, ard the engineer, Mr. J. I- McAith>.i. An apology for absence was received from Cr. R. T. Reid. With regard to the new road on tHe eest side of Drury station, the District Engineer of New Zealand Railways intimated that Mr. Dickson hall now removed his house from off the land taken for road on to his owi property. Ho also stated that it ha< been clearly pointed out to Mr. Dick son that he must make his own ar rangements with the local bodv to continuing his present occupatio: | of the area now to he handed ove> | lor road purposes.--The chaaina) | pointed out that stock sales wen held near the locality, and with stocl going along the road the fence w;v bound to be damaged. Before thi council took the road over he though;! the engineer should inspect, and report on the matter at next meeting. He thought the road should be th< full width access road.--Agreed upon. Mr. H. E. R. L. Wily, Mauku. re ported the result of the conference at Mercer, and the visit to Wellington in connexion with the WaikaUj River navigation and drainage, particulars of which have previously ap peared in the "Times."-—The reporl was received, and the clerk was instructed to write and thank Mr. Wih for his action in the matter. The Kohekohe branch of the \ev> Zealand Farmers' Union urged th ! council to expedite the expenUiL.n of the Government grant on Cooner';. deviation, Kohekohe. -It was pointed out that the plans had been prepared and were in the Public Works Oflic; waiting for approval. It was decide to write to the Public Works Depart j mont urging them to expedite the re j turn of the plans. As toon a 1; the plans come to hand it was revive;: to call tenders for the work. A re ply to this effect is to be forwarder A petition signed by W. A. Dickrx and 29 other ratepayers in the Awhitu Riding requested that the grade of the road leading on to the metal on Watson's Hill and part <>i the latter be improved before beint shelled. The engineer reported thin the matter was already receiving attention. The Papakura Town Hoard tequesled permission to obtain metal frond the quarry by the concrete bridge oil the Hunua Road. Pokeno, lodged objection> to being included in the rating area in connexion with the proposed Tuakau Razorback connexion on the grounds that the proposed road would | not benefit them in any way. Cr. Wilcox said that some time ..go • meeting of ratepayers was called fo.the purpose of discussing the matter I and everyone was in favour of the I proposal, but since then several places have changed hands, and now a large J number were against it. and the j clerk went round the district las! I Saturday canvassing for signatures, but met some objections. Thev de cided to leave the matter over for :• while to allow ol those against thi proposal to lodge objections. The clerk said that the proposed special lating area had been advocated, an.l the only course open now was to place the objections before a magistrate. Cr. Wilcox thought that a | petition should be forwerded to Mr. j Revel I for him to obtain signatures. This course was decided on. Attention was drawn by the Tuakau town Board to the dangerotil- - of River Road, Tuakau. between ■ the landing and the Tuakau bridge. The board recommended that the cul \ert near the flaxniill be fenced in aiso that willows be cut in various puttes where they were tncroachiii" on the road. It was decided to reply stating that the matter was receiving attention.

Lockwood anil Thomas to make application to th ■ Minis'er of* public Works for a grant of t.'j.io to be placed on the Supplementary Estimates.- Carried.
