ONEWHERO. i ENTERTAINMENT. A very successful evening's enhr tainment was given by a ftw of uv community of Oncwhero, on Wednesday, October 27. in-order to raisfunds for the local tennis club. Tl.k--was.in the form of t.wo short oonv dies written and produced by Mr. T Scoble Cornish, of Onewhero. The first, called "Her Castles i Spain," was very well received by th audience, who appreciated the wi rfnd humour of the playright b, rounds and rounds of applaus'. Special mention should be made her of the way in which Mrs. A. Al!**i superbly acted her part of the schem ing widow trying to marry her tw daughters well; also of Mrs. f. •" Cornish, whose role of the fussy am caused many roars of laughter. She took the part of an <>'< maid pretending to be sweet an-, twenty. Mr. E. Mack, who acted th' foolish young soldier, did very we' and succeeded in looking his part 1 the amusement of the audience.
During the interval between ti two plays a very pretty Egyptia. costume dance was given by for. ladies, Mesdames P. J. K. Taylor an. K. Crawford, and Misses Mary Cat! cart and .M. McNaught. This wa. so well rendered that an encore ha to be given. Mr. J. Liddle and Mrt IK. Crawford each gave an item dui ing the interval. Considering the very boisterou: evening the attendance was far be yond expectations, the hall being fu' to overflowing. At the finish thre* cheers were given to Mr. T. Scobli Cornish and party, who all well deserved the thunders of applause. 1 • For an amateur performance i must be said that everything wr done without a hitch, and this speak, for itself that a lot of hard wor had been done in the way of rehear sals.
ALFRISTON AND BROOKBY. OBITUARY. MR. DAVID ALEXANDER REID. Quite a (.'loom was cast over tlv; district 011 Monday morning when i: was made known that David Alexander Reid, J.P., had passed away in n private hospital in Auckland at tlv: comparatively early age of 53. Tl j Inte Mr. Reid was one of the best known and highly respected men o1 the district. His kindly and genia' manner had won for himself the admiration and respect of all who knew him. Mr. Reid, had been connected with the public affairs of the dis trict for the last thirty years, and at the time oi his death he was the representative of the Papakura liiding on the Manukau County Council which office he had held for the last two years, and he had just beer nominated for another term at the time of his death. Other public affairs that Mr. Reid was connected with were the school committee,-pub-lic hall committer and the war memorial <;;wmitte:\ Besides holding high, positions in both the English and I'i e-ibj lei iar. Chuichcs. he lias set a good example for those who are left: behind to follow, and his position) will» bje hard to fill in the district.
