MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

USUAL MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting- of the Manurevva Town Board was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening-. There were' present: Messrs. T. J. Corin (chairman), M. I). King, C. H. Lupton, E. : S. Pegler, W. T. Cox, G. Smith. G. Gallagher, and H. Kay (clerk). Proposed Toll-gate. The proposal to establish a tollgate in the/district was again briefly • discussed. A scale of charges levied by the Stratford County Council was read. It was ultimately decided that in view of the prospective taking over of tha main roads by the Government the matter be held in abeyance in the meantime. Hunua Electric Scheme. Mr. C. H. Lupton reported on the meeting of local body delegates which discussed the proposed Hunua electric power scheme. Correspondence on the matter was also read. In referring to the matter Messrs. Conn and King reported on the success of j the electric scheme at New Plymouth. I They had been given every facility by the local officials to go into the matter, and h«d been impressed by the advancement which had been made. Mr. Corin, also stated that the electrical engineer at New Plymouth. who knew the district well, had stated that there was ample water at Hunua to warrant the scheme being proceeded with. The board endorsed the delegates' action in agreeing to share the cost of obtaining a comprehensive report on the scheme. The action of the Works' Committee in letting the tender for printing of the board's by-laws to the "Franklin and Pukekohe Times" was approved. A letter was received from Mr. F. Wills accepting the position of building inspector on the terms specified by the board. £BOOO Loan. The chairman reported that the £BOOO loan had been sanctioned, and that the money was now available. This was one of the results of the visit of the deputation to Wellington. The money had been secured at a very good rate of interest, and would'require to be lifted within 12 months. This sum was to be utilised for the cutting away of hills and regrading and metalling roads. Board's Area Enlarged. With reference to the proposal to enlarge the town district by a mile, Mr. Corin stated that the Prime Mill- f. ister had been interviewed regarding the matter, and it was anticipated that as a result thereof the new area would be gazetted by proclamation, thus obviating the necessity of a commission. Mr. Lupton pointed out that by getting this done by Parliament they were getting a great concession. Mr. King moved, and it was decided, that Mr. Lupton be thanked for the work which he had done towards obtaining the enlargement of the town district. A number of applications were received for the position of working foreman to the board. After a little discussion Mr. W. Amiss was appointed. The chairman reported to the meeting on the work of the delegation which waited on the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, member for the district. Various matters pertaining to the welfare of the district and requests for subsidies towards local works were petitioned for. and the deputation had been very favourably received. The meeting received the report with extreme gratification, and it was generally considered that the progress of Munurcwa in the near future would be far greater than ever
