The East Tantaki Road Board intimated th it it was agreeable to contribute half cost of a further expenditure of 11 at Matthew's Gully, Papakura boundary roud.— Engineer to auetui to matter. Improvements to Wiri Station. At a meeting of ratepayers at Wiri it was resolved to recommend the council to communicate with the Railway Department with a view of. having "a goods-shed erected at Wiri, also an accommodation paddock so that settlers requiring to proceed to Auckland could leave horses With the. object of having the requests complied with, it was decided to wait on the Railway Department in connexion with the matter. Wiri Station Road Loan. On the motion of Cr. Waters it was decided to apply to the Governor General for consent to raise a loan of £2OOO, and to the Public Works Department for a grant of £IOOO for the purpose of constructing the Wiri station road. It was pointed out that some of the settlers had agreed to give land for the road. It was decided to take the necessary steps to have the road legalised. Ranging. The Papatoetoe Town Board signified its willingness to contribute £ls per annum for ranging in the Town Board's district.—Received. Clevedon Wharf Road. Mr. A. E. Bailey. Clevedon, wrote urawing the council's attention to the state of the road at the Clevedon wharf and requested' it b<j attended to. Referred to engineer and the chairman to deal with. Fallen Soldiers' Memorial. In connexion with the East Tau.uki request to erect a fallen soldiers' war memorial at the junction of four roads deferred from last meeting pending inspection, it was resolved 1 hat the request be dec.lined as the toad corner was not properly dedicated, and as the council was of the opinion that the safest place for such was on the East Tamaki Board's recreation reserve near the hall, and not on the roadway, where it may be a source of danger through lack of illumination. Grazing Licenses. Ratepayers of Mangere riding petitioned the council to limit the grazing licenses on the roads to milking cows only. The chairman said that he had been approached by several small ratepayers in Wairoa riding with a \ iovv of having licenses granted t hem. Cr. Brov.nhill did not favour, the licensing question at all. pointing cut that cattle and particularly milking rows caused considerable damage to properties, hedges in particular. Cr. Haltaway said in his district grass grew rapidly in the-spring, and there was a danger through fires. They limited the number of licenses (o milking cows, and found they did not do much damage. Horses ,vere
absolutely barred. It was necessary that some cattle should be grazed to keep the grass.down to prevent fires. The clerk slated that a ranger had been appointed, but there was no stipulation concerning grazing licenses. .
Cr. Unllaway said all licensed cattle should have a ticket on indicating that it was a licensed animal.
Cr. Waters pointed out the whole matter was out of order, because provision for gracing licenses had not been made in the by-laws. On the motion of Crs. Hattaway and Waters the matter was deferred, to be dealt with at the first meeting of-the newly-elected council. Pay-sheei.
