TUAKAU.

TOWN BOARD MEETING. The Tuakau Town Board met on Tuesday last, when there were present: Messrs. Dynes Fulton (chairman), G. S. Lapwood, (!. Arrowsmith, ■J. B. Sim, W. J. Taylor, Jas. Pirrel, C. Finch and the clerk (Mr. A. H. Tapper). Mr. D. H. Madill th" meeting, and pointed out that lie intended'putting a metal road into the bone mill, and asked if in the opinion of the board, the mill was nuisance, and if it; would have U> bshifted in the near future. Mr. Pirret moved and Mr. Taylor seconded that the board was oj' the opinion that the mill was not a nuisance to residents, and was not likely to become so for some time to come. Carried.

Mr. Madill requested an allowance on metal charged for owing to the works in George Street interfering with his crossing. On the motion of Mr. Taylor, seconded by the chairman, it was decided to make an allowance of half the cost of metal supplied. In reply to the board's letter asking that the suburban railway service be extended to Tuakau, the Geneial Manager, New Zealand Railways, stated that the request could not be acceded to at the present time.— Received.

Messrs. Taylor and Pirret reported having, attended a meeting of local bodies concerning the harnessing of the Hunua Falls for electricity generating purposes. The clerk was authorised to pay the necessary amount of the Board's contribution towards the cost of obtaining a report as to the possibilities of the falls. Mr Pirret was elected deputy-chair-man on the motion of Messrs. Fulton and Finch. Mr. Sim drew the board's attention to the state of River Road, and on his motion, seconded by Mr. Lapwood, the clerk was instructed to draw the Franklin County Council's attention to the matter, with a request that willows be cut and the culvert near the flaxmill fenced, as it was dangerous as it existed at present.

In view of the fact that a site had been recently acquired by the Education Board for a new school, Mr. Taylor urged that the Education Board be written to requesting that the election of the school be proceeded with as early as possible. He moved to this effect. Mr. Pirret seconded, and the motion was carried. Finance Committee. Messrs. Arrowsmith, Sim and Pirret were appointed a Finance Committee. Necessity for Police Station.. Mr. Lapwood pointed out the necessity for the erection of a police station at Tuakau, and moved that the member for the district be vvritto urging upon him that the erection of a police station 'it Tuakau lie proceeded with at once, and pointing out that a grant for that purpose was sanctioned some time ago. Works Committee. All members of Ihe board were appointed a Work? On the motion of Mr. Arrowsniith il was decided to place on record the board's appreciation of the good work done by the chairman on the occasion of his recent visit to Wellington. FOOTBALLERS' SOCIAL. A reminder is given those interested of the Tuakau footballers' so-
