DISTRICT NEWS.
PAERATA AFFAIRS. The committee recently formed to forward the interests of this district met on Saturday last. Tha matter of a school for the district was further discussed. A report from the Education Board was to the _ effect that a site was available, and it was decided to make formal application for the granting of a school. The state of the roads was next dealt with, general dissatisfaction being expressed at the failure of the council to act in the inaitter. It was decided to call a meeting of cream suppliers to discuss the question of cartage and suppliers interests generally. ARDfWORE. ;3*fer PROPOSED MONUMENT. A proposal for the erection of a monument at Ardmore, near Papakura, in memory of the fallen soldiers of the district, was referred to at a meeting of the Manukau County Council on Tuesday, when the committee charged with the construction of the memorial applied for a permit to obtain the cement required for the work. The chairman, Mr. A. D. Bell, remarked that although the work could not be considered essential, there was si great deal to be said In favour of it. It was decided to refer the application to the Boarc. of Trade.
