MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

The usual fortnightly sitting of tht Pukekohe Magistrate's Court wat held yesterday, Mr. A. Mowlem, S.M.. occupying the bench. DRUNKENNESS. One first offender for drunkenness was convicted and 'fined 10s ano costs. INDECENT LANGUAGE. A first offender appeared in answei to a charge of using indecent language in Hall Street on September 16. The accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant Cowan stated that accus ed had been unlawfully on post of fice premises, and that when rcmon strated with used the language com plained of. There were no ladiet present at the time. The magistrate imposed a fine ol £3, with costs 13s, remarking that had ladies been present the fine would have been much heavier. SCHOOL NON-ATTENDANCE. A charge was. preferred against George Attewell by the Educatioi. Department with failing to send hi; son to the technical and continua tion school at Pukekohe on variou dates between March 22 and June 7 Accused pleaded guilty. Mr. S. Youldcn. superviser in charg« of the Technical College at Pukekohe stated thnt since an order had beci made the boy had been attendinj school, and his conduct was quit' satisfactory. A fine of 5s and costs was im posed. , ALLEGED INSULTING LANGUAGE

A young woman, Lilian Walsh, wa charged on the information of Henr. Arthur Steele with using insultin;; language to the complainant at Buck land. Mr. Baslcy, for the defendanl stated that latterly there had beei no trouble over the matter, and b< would suggest that the matter be withdrawn. Mr. Haddow, for defendant, sateci that he thought the question of costs should be considered. The case was adjourned until next Court day. MAINTENANCE CASES. An application for a separation older and maintenance at the rate oi 12 a week was made by Lily Walsl (Mr. J. G. Haddow) against her hus band, Lawrence Walsh (Mr. Basley). Application was also made tor tlir guardianship of the three children, ager 6, 10 and 13 years. As neither of the parties put in ai appearance the case was adjourned until October 21. A charge of failing to pay maintenance for his wife at the 'rate of £2 a week was preferred against Win. Pierce, the arrears in this case amounting to £lB. Accused pleade-' guilty, but stated that he intended to apply for a variation of the order. Sergeant Cowan stated that tie man had caused them a considerable amount of trouble. Accused was ordered to pay the amount, in default 18 days' imprison ment.
