A GROWING SUBURB.

PAPATOETOE'S PROGRESS.

BUILDING ACTIVITIES

Even the most casual visitor to Papatoetoe cannot fail to be impressed with the remarkable growth of this increasingly popular suburb, What, only a few years ago, •consisted of an agricultural settlement, comprising numerous small farms, is to-day one cf Auckland's most progressive suburbs. T.he farms have been cut up and subdivided and farm buildings have given place to fine artistic homes.

Everywhere are signs of building activities. Houses would appear to be going up like mushrooms. Not only in the vicinity of the railway station are these homes making their appearance, but at quite a consider-; able distance from the, at present only means of transport, dwelling in various stages of erection aragH

be seen. . *££&■ Despite the apparent rapidity witaf which these buildings are .feeing erected, there is nothing of the present day, too common, "'jerry-built" appearance about them. For the most part the buildings in course of construction appear to be very substantially built, and quite a large percentage of them are built of concrete or brick blocks. Another noticeable thing is the pleasing architecture of these new homes. Even the most inartistic man cannot fail to appreciate the attractiveness of their design. Not only are the houses themselves of substantial and pleasing appearance, but the well-kept gardens which surround them greatly enhance their appearance and give the real feeling of "home" in the proper sense of the word. With the ever-increasing population of Auckland and the necessity for extending the residential area, Papatoetoe will undoubtedly become I very popular, and its present condition be only a forerunner of its future prosperity.
