The Town Board election at Helensville caused considerable excitement. There were 13 candidates for seven beats, and the highest poller got 238 vote;.; the lowest 00. In the local paper appeared a notice headed, "Brilliant victory for the Young Party—l out of 7." The following is the text of a circular fosued by t'other side— "Electors! Shall the people rule'.' Beware of the Young Party, who bland for class representation and old ideas! Read their manifesto: Safeguard the greatest of all principles 'Government of the people,' Wo offer playing grounds for your children and your children's children. They offer ■■> steam roller!" Evidently, alter indulging in a 'snooze" longer than Kip Van Winkle's. Helcnsvilk "woke up."
bonic strange things happen at Karangahakc. A correspondent writes:— During the recent very cold snap here a very remarkable phenomenon happened, One very cold morning: it was noticed th;it there was an entire absence of the usual cock-crowing; and upon investigating the cause thereof, it was ascertained that although the roosters opened their beaks, stretched their necks, and flapped their wings, no stuml was audible; the notes had simply frozen in the air. However, when the sun was well in the zenith, the notes thawed, and there ensued auch a babel as won't be forgotten
