PAERATA. PROPOSED NEW SCHOOL A meeting in furtherance 'Spjpke movement to obtain a school' forT's. rata was held on Saturday, fast, when s there was a good attendatee of residents. Mr. R. J. Hughes was voted to the chair. A report was submitted showing that the number of jhildren of school age in the district warranted a school. It was decided co circulate a petition for signatures, and Messrs. H. Eastgate, W. Stewart, oen., und R. J. Hughes were appointed i deputation to wait on the Education Board in the matter. A further neeting will be held on Saturday, jctober 9, when the question of site, md other matters, will be discussed BUCKLAND.
FANCY DRESS BALL. The physical culture class run -Hn Juckland during the winter by Mrs. Morgan wound up the winter season jy a highly successful fancy drees jail. The hall was most tastefully •ecorated, and many striking costw„ oumes were worn by local dancers^ 8 aid visitors from surrounding dis» .ricts. Mrs. H. H. D. Wily acted 4 ,udge, while Mr. L. Bilkey made M ,-mcient M.C.. The prize for the -Wt ady's fancy dress was awarded'to diss G. Leighton, who looked chanting as a Hindu dancer. The judge xpressed the opinion that Miss M. .'eterkin, as Folly, Mrs. Len. Bilkey .s Chinese Lady, and Miss.Swot as 'ood control, were cloee' rupiers-ap. Jther dresses that were worthy of .otice were: Miss Lois Shaw (Good ..uck), Miss C. Shaw (Starlight), 4isses E. Greenwood (France),"Grace Veal (Waitress), Morgan (Wnrtoenip). A Hewlett (Cow-girl), L." |l& Griffin (ButfernWHL''" Joag (Welsh Girl). The men's fancy dress prize was iwarded to Mr. W. Bilkey, whose personification of a typical sundowner .vas particularly good. Mr. B. Sotcon as cowboy and Mrs. Len Bilkey is a Greek, were also good. The only jther fancy dresses worn by gentlemen calling for special mention were: Messrs. C. Nicholson (Pierrot), P. Neal (Russian Dancer), H. Leighton (London Coster), F. Steele (English Jentleman). Dancing went with a swing till the early hours of the morning. Miss Geraghty supplied the music.
TUAKAU.
Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of the ruakau Town Board, has gone to Wellington in connexion with various matters pertaining to the welfare of che Tuakau Town District. FOOTBALL.
The Hamilton City football team journeyed to Tuakau on Saturday last co try conclusions with the Tuakau fifteen. The visitors,' who were a fast and nippy combination, had lit-"!* tie difficulty in defeating the'home* team by 37 points to 17. At the end of the third quarter the scores were: Hamilton 19, Tuakau 17. In the final quarter the visiting backs asserted .. chemselves, and scored several tries. For the losers F. Pivott scored two tries, one of which he converted, while he- also kicked a penalty goal. E. Revell converted one of Pivott's tries. A Smeed potted a-goal. The game was fast and spectacular, and the better team won. Mr. J. W. Lonergan capably carried the whistle. FARMERS' UNION TRADING €O. The Tuakau branch store of the Farmers' Union Trading Company is j proving too small to cope with the increased business. Extensive alterations and extensions have been deeded on, and a commencement has been made with the work. The excavation work was commenced yesterday, and providing materials are lvailable the store will soon be con/erted into a very large and up-to-late establishment.
