MANUREWA CATHOLIC CHURCH.
CONCERT AND DANCE. AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. A concert and dance was held in the, Manurewa Theatre on Wednesday evening, and despite the inclemency of the weather there was a very fair attendance. The entertainment, which was in aid of the Catholic Church fund, was very well arranged, and a number of exceptionally good artists contributed towards the programme. The stage had been simply but tastefully decorated, an# a dainty supper was provided. Many couples participated in the dance which followed, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. A good floor, and the music provided by Miss Lanigan, were greatly appreciated. Messrs. T. J. Corin and B. Wilson capably fulfilled the position of M's.C.
The concert programme consisted of a variety of well-rendered items, each artist being consistently recalled. Miss Rosa Sach, the talented danseuse, delighted the audience with her masterly interpretation of the "Sailor's Hornpipe," and presented a most graceful figure in a skipping dance. Miss Sach was accompanied fet the piano by Miss Lanigan. Much amusement was caused by Mr. L. Sawtell in a number of animal imitations. In this original item Mr. Sawtell "reproduced in a realistic manner the noises of various animals from a blowfly to a lion. A n orchestral selection was well rendered by Misses Moroney and Messrs. M. Gilman and J. Moroney, the two latter also appearing in a flute duet, and Mr. Gilman in a solo. Mr. J. Mackile was well received in a number of elocutionary efforts, while the vocal items of Misses Corby and P. Stevens, and Mr. A. Dobbs was of high order. The accompaniments were capably played by Miss J. Moroney.
