TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.

MR. DYNES FULTON RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN.

The first meeting of the newlyelected Town Board was held on Friday last, the only business before the meeting being the election of a chairman. There were present:— Messrs. D. Fulton, C. Finch, G. Lapwood, J. Sim, W. J. Taylor, Jas. Pirret and the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper). An apology for absence was received from Mr. G. Arrowsmith on account of indisposition. The clerk took the chair and called for nominations for the position of chairman. Mr. D. Fulton nominated Mr. Jas. Pirret, stating in his opinion Mr Pirret had given long and faithful services to the board, and was well experienced, having occupied the chair in his absence on several occasions. Mr. Pirret, however, declined nomination. Mr. Taylor then nominated Mr. D. Fulton, whom he said was the right man for the position in view of the large works which had been commenced and which he wanted to see satisfactorily completed. Mr. Lapwood seconded the motion, stating that if he had differed from Mr. Fulton in the past, it was purely a matter of opinion, and that he had every confidence in Mr. Fulton's integrity and ability for the position. There were no other nominations, and Mr. Fulton was unanimously re-elected. In thanking members for the honour conferred on him, Mr. Fulton stated that he never expected slavish agreement from members of the board, as he welcomed a straightout and honest discussion at any time. The board had a large programme of work in front of it, and intended to o-et to work immediately. It would be necessary for one or more members to visit Wellington as regards the hall loan and other matters pertaining to the welfare of the district, ' particularly with regard to the Harrisville road works, as no reply had yet been received from the railway authorities as to their intentions in connexion with the matter. He congratulated the new members upon their election, and welcomed them to the board. The new members, Messrs. laylor and Sim, suitably replied. A special meeting of the board will be held on Friday, September 24, to consider works in progress and new works.
