MAUNGATAWHIRI.
FAREWELL SOCIAL. A most enjoyable social and dance tendered as a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. O. Reed and family was held in the Maungatawhiri Settlers' Hall on Friday, September 10. Mr. and Mrs. Reed, who are leaving the district to take up their residence in Auckland, were presented by the Maungatawhiri settlers with a silver tea service as a mark of esteem. Mr. S. P. Pendergrast, in a few well chosen words, spoke of Mr. Reed as having lived in the district all his life, and of the esteem in which lie and his family had always been held. Rev. Charles Vaughen spoke of the regret felt by many at the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Reed and family. After the singing of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and "Auld Lang Syne," supper was served in a taste-fully-decorated supper-room. p During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs. Vaughen and Mr. Bullen, of Bombay. Dancing was indulged in well into the early hours of the morning, Mr. R. G. Pendegrast making a capable M.C. The large crowd present testified to the popularity of Mr. and Mrs. Reed.
PROPERTY CHANGES.
Several properties in this district have changed hands during the last month or so. Mr. O. Reed has sold his farm to tm. F. Lowry, of Pokeno. Mr. A. H. Patcin has sold to Mr. Murray, of Auckland. Mr. Chas. Pope has sold a small part of his farm to Mr. J. B. Parker.
