The Times. Published on Tuesday and Friday Afternoons. Motto: Public service. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1920. NEW LOCAL INDUSTRY.
By a report appearing in this issue it will be noted that a new industry has b?en started in Pukekohe in the form of an up-to-date bone-mill for the conversion of animal waste into manures. This is decidedly a step in the right direction, and should prove of considerable value to the farmers in the district. Hitherto large quantities of bones, carcasses, and offal have been wasted annually because there existed none but somej what primitive methods of converting | these things into marketable commodities. By means of the new mill all waste products of the nature referred to can be locally treated, and the manufactured article sold locally, thus saving freight, and, more important still, keeping local money in local circulation. Every pound that has to be sent out of the district impoverishes this locality to that extent, and a firm which, at considerable expense, affords opportunities of benefitting the district farmers is conferring a gain on the whole community, for the interests of all sections are inter-dependent. We wish the new enterprise every success, and trust that hearty support will he given to a useful and valuable industry.
