RETURNED SOLDIERS' BALL.

A URU.LIAKT SUCCESS

The Bombay returned soldiers' lull was held in the Bombay Hall on Ant;-

ust 27, and proved an unqualified sue cess from all points of view. The hall was tastefully lecorated with the Allied flags, and the floor, which was in excellent order, was fully occupied. Excellent dance music was supplied by Burnand's orchestra. The duties of M.C's were efficiently discharged by Messrs. R. Cornthwaite, W. R. Shaw, G. Carter and L. Balme. The success of the function was due to the efforts of the energetic secretary, Mr. R. Shaw, and his band of hardworking officials, who left no stone unturned to achieve their object. Supper was duly appreciated. Appended is a list of some of the dresses worn:—Mesdames R. Reynolds (white ninon over white crepe de chene), Bullen (nattier blue charmeuse with gold trimmings), Booth (cream net over silk, trimmed with pink silk and pears), Vaughan (black net over crepe de chene), Maitland (white china silk), H. T1 Rgy. Hoopef occupied the chnfr, anil the programme •* consisted of songs, by Mrs. Cumthings, Mrs. C. Pople, Mr. W. Barker and Mr. T. Seaton; pfanoforte duets by Misses Shaw and Pople and Mrs. and Miss "Pople; cornst solos, Mr. G. Longshaw; organ solo, Mr. Loncshaw, sen.; reciMr. A. J. Pople and A. Best. ifi W. Barker was the accompanist, fSIW supper was served at the close of the programme.
