BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
The suggestion that a beautifying society should be formed in Pukekohe was made at the Chamber of Commerce meeting last night. Certainly, there is room for a body of enthusiasts banded together for the purpose of preserving existing beautyspots and creating new ones. The people of most towns have cause to lament the lack of foresight displayed in this respect by previous generations. This is the era of town-plan-ning and aesthetic ideas on civic surroundings, and it is surprising what line transformations can be made by a little labour, and no ureal expenditure. The Hamilton Beautifying Society has done wonders for that town, creating loveliness in places which formerly were unsightly. The effect of beautification is to give pleasure to the eye and the senses, to make the town more .attractive to live in. to secure a higher status and better repute, to improve the environment, and even the hygienic conditions to some extent, and to enhance property values. These objects are all worthy ones and would fully justify the existence of a beautifying society in the rising and prosperous town of Pukekohe.
