MARKET REPORT.
Mr. J. Jones, auctioneer, City Markets, Auckland, reports sales for the week ending August 28:— The market showed a great improvement, and values in all lines were firm. A large volume of trade was put through. The sale of ducks, cattle and farm implements held at Avondale last Saturday was a most successful one, buyers being in attendance in large! numbers. In fact this sale was a record for attendance and prices. All the ducks (of which there were over' 1800) sold under very keen competition, realising from "&» lOd to 9s 4d. The cows and horses were in great! demand. Farm implements and wire-! netting; an unsatisfied demand exist-; ed. Business in the store has been very brisk. Poultry at to-day's auction was in short supply, and the market was firm. We penned a heavy supply of pigs, and compared with last quotations values were higher.. Any choice quality pigs sold under very keen demand. Potatoes are a shade firmer. Butter, eggs, and bacon showed an upward tendency. Fruit market easier. We quote:— Poultry: Hens, prime, 6s to 6s lOd; good, 5s to 5s 9d; light, 8s 6d to 4s; pullets, 6s to 8s 9d; roosters, prime, 6s 9d to 7s 8d; good 6s to 6s 6d; small, 3s 9d to 4s 6d; ducks, 5s to 6s 7d; drakes, 4s 6d to 5s sd; geese, lis to 18s 6d; turkey gobblers, 10s 9d to 18s 9d; turkey hens, 7s to 8s 7d; ducklings, Is to Is lid each. Pigs: Weaners, £1 7s to £2 2s; stores, £2 2s 6d to £3 ss; baconer,
£B. Farm Produce: Southern table potatoes, £7 to £8 10s. Southern seed: Gamekeepers and Northern Stars, £8 10s to £9 16s. Onions, 12s 6d to £1 6s, according to quality. Swedes, £4 to £5. Pumpkins, 8s to 12s 3d. Carrots, per sugar bag, 3s to 3s 9d; horse carrots, £3 15s to £4 10s. Hay, £9 to £lO. Ham, factory Is Bd, side Is 5d to Is 6d. Cheese, Is 4d. Butter Is 4d to Is 6d. Eggs 2s 2d to 2s Bd. Honey, section 8d to lOd; bulk, 7d to Bd. Fruit: Apples, dessert, 6s 6d to 8s 6d; choice, 9s to 10s 6d; Stumers, 7s to lis 9d. Lemons, 8s 9d to 14s 6d. Poonnan's Oranges, 10s to 12s. Grain: Maize 10s to lis 4d. Oats, 6s 6d. Chaff, Southern, £l4 to £l6. Barley, 10s. Algerian Oats, 8s 6d. Bran and sharps, current rates.
