MARKET REPORT
Mr. J. Jones, auctioneer, New City Markets, Auckland, reports as follows for the week ending August 14: At Friday's sale we penned an exceptionally large number of poultry and pigs. Good heavy birds are in strong demand; birds on the light side, competition slack. Indian Runner ducks are now coming forward in increased supply, and values are a shade lower. Turkeys have this year been arriving in heavy supply, and prices are steady. Pigs.—Supply heavy, demand good, prices high. Recommend consignments. We sold 94 at auction to-day. Produce.—We have this week landed some 3000 sacks of choice quality table and seed potatoes, and values from last report are slightly lower. From present indications we do not think the market will lower. Seed potatoes in strong demand. Pumpkins and onions show an upward tendency. Swede steady. Butter, Eggs and Cheese.—All lines firmer; values will rise.
Fruit.—Apples in heavy supply; market shows no change. Lemons slightly easier.
The grain market is very firm, though most lines are in short supply. We still carry heavy stocks of all lines. Wheat unprocurable. We quote:—
