MERCER NEWS
EXCURSION STEAMER. We understand that the Waikato Shipping Company has purchased an excursion steamer, and will at some future date be organising excursion trips from Cambridge and Hamilton to the Waikato Heads. The steamer, which is lit with electric light, is capable of carrying -100 passengers. The steamer is at present undergoing repairs at Mercer. WAIKATO RIVER BOARD. A meeting of ratepayers of the Waikato River Board will be held on August 28 when matters in connexion with river board will be considered. FALLEN SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL. There is a movement on foot to erect a fallen soldiers' memorial in memory of those Mercer men who made the supreme sacrifice in the fight for justice, right and liberty. TOWN BOARD ELECTION. Nominations for the Town Board election close on September 8. Interest is rather keen at Mercer, and we believe the railway employees intend running a strong ticket. So far the names of probable candidates are Dot available.
