"The Miracle Man" is coining. Tenders for inland mail services pre called for by advertisement. A cleaning-up week in the congested residential area of the borough is advertised. "The Miracle Man" ie a miracle photoplay. On account of Mr. A. S. Civil's illhealth the partnership between him and Mr. V. S. Roberts has been dissolved by mutual agreement. The business will in future be carried on by Mr. Roberts solely. "The Miracle Man" is inspiring. It steals into the heart like an exquisite poem. Mr. W. S. Russell, Pukekohe electrician, has secured the contract for electrical installations in the new Franklin Technical High School, ha\ing secured the contracts against all opposition, including city tenderers. Statistical works continue to be issued by the Government, the census figures used being those of 1916. These are now utterly unreliable, and therefore a fresh, census would be much more informative. "The Miracle Man" is coining. Don't pass him by.
The record of rain fall as register ed at Victoria Avenue. Waiuku, during July, is as follows: Rain fell on 12 days" and varied from .Olin. to M in, the total being 2.27 in. For. the preceding veais 1015, 1916, 1917. 1918 and 1919 the fall was 6.98 in, 4.85 in. 10.78 in.. 5.77 in., and 5.05 in. respectively, during the corresponding month. We learn that Mr. W. T. Cumberland, cabinetmaker and upholsterer, has assumed a new partner. It is the intention of the new firm to add to their workshop and to instal up-to-date machinery. The business for some months has been in such volume that Mr. Cumberland has been unable to handle it, and has taken this course to give his clients better service. The new firm will be known as Cumberland and Whitford. The charm of -The Miracle Man" is irresistible. It lingers in the -nemorv like a haunting melody.
A new edition of the Municipal Handbook, which has been published menially since 1903, has just been issued by the Census Statistics Olliee. Every effort has been made to make a volume of useful information carefully arranged for easy reference by those who arc directly interested in local government or by students of municipal development and manage- ! ment. The statistical section covers the whole range of local bodies' revenue and expenditure in many comparative tables which reflect the varied spirit of enterprise or economy in different localities. It is not the Statistician's function to comment on those figures. The local authorities have this responsibility in the notes on their own districts, and this descriptive matter, practically constituting a comprehensive guide-book, should interest tie average New Zealander. The feature of the Handbook has not been as well known to the general public as it deserves to be,
Owing to the screening of "The Miracle Man" at the Premier Hall on Wednesday week, August 18, the Lyceum Management will screen the current midweek programme on Monday next. "The Miracle Man," the photoplay with an amazing soul. The programme for the cantata "Daniel" to be rendered on Thursday is advertised. Among the artists mentioned appear some wellrknown names of first-class Auckland performers, including Mrs. W. Leather (soprano), and Mr. Leather (tenor), Mr. T. C. Seaton (baritone, of Papakura), and Mrs. Crawford (contralto, of Papakura). The production promises to be the finest musical and elocutionary treat ever given in Pukekohe. A great thought cannot die. "The Miracle Man" is a great thought.
