DISTRICT NEWS.
PATUMAHOE. (Own Correspondent.) POPULAR PICTURES. The "movies" have reached Patumahoe, and from the attendance on Thursday night promise to be a favourite weekly entertainment. Mr. Vose, who is running the pictures, expressed satisfaction with the number that turned up, and the people were very pleased with the show. The screening was pood, equal to anything to be seen in any of the big centres and the play, "In the Clutches of the Hun," was very interesting and well received. It is evident that some alteration will have to be made to the hall to provide more seating accommodation, and I understand the hall committee are about to take this in hand. Patumahoe is to have pictures every Thursday night in future. Sawinilling Industry. A new industry has been started alongside the Patumahoe station. Messrs. Bagents have set up a new sawmill capable of cutting 8000 ft of timber per day. Having bought Wright's bush, and seoured nearly all the oine in the district, these enterprising millers reckon on having five years' cutting ahead. When finally equipped the mill will turn out tongue and grooved flooring, match lining, etc. Electric Light. Mr. Bagent, jun., who is an electrical engineer, has offered to harness Henry's falls alongside the sawmill, and provide electric light and power for the residents of Patumahoe and surroundings at 3d per unit, and is this proposition has been very favourably received and is now under consideration by a number of interested parties, we should see the electric light installed in every homestead within 12 months.
