PUKEKOHE EAST. SOCIAL AND DANCE. Dancing enthusiasts are advised by advertisement in this issue that a social and dance under the auspices of the Pukekohe East Tennis Club will be held in the Pukekohe East Hall on Thursday, August 19, For further particulars see advertisement. PUKEKOHE WEST. POPULAR RESIDENTS FAREWELLED. MR. AND MRS. G. HART AND FAMILY, AND MRS. A. HART, SEN.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hart and family, and Mrs. A. Hart, sen., old residents of Pukekohe West, who have sold their property, and who are leaving that locality to reside at Doctor's Hill, Pukekohe, were fnrewelled by the residents on Friday evening last. In spite of the inclement weather there was an attendance of about 50 friends. The function was organised by a number of neighbours. A most successful evening was spent in playing cards, etc., while a number of musioal items rendered by Miss Denzie Barry, L.A.8., of Sydney, who is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. T. Jenkins, Miss Linda Perkins, Mrs. J. Woods and Mr. C. Matuschka, were greatly appreciated. Mrs A. Hart, who is 85 years of ege, has resided at Pukekohe West for the past 53 years, and during her long residence there she had manv
friends and not a single enemy. When a young woman Mrs. Hart, sen., assisted her husband (deceased) to carve out a home. In the early days her services. were sought after from far and near to render assistance to the sick and those in need. In this respect her services were always available, and were always appreciated. She was highly esteemed by all with whom she came in contact, and in leaving Pukekdhe West the residents are losing a valuable friend. Mr. Frank Perkins, on behalf of the residents, presented Mrs. Hart with a beautiful pair of slippers and a shawl as a mark of respect in which she was held, To little Iris Hart he handed some fancy crockery ware, to Master Hart a pocket wallet, to Mrs. Geo. Hart a silver hotwater jug and silver cake dish, and to Mr. Geo. Hart a gold-mounted umbrella, hi doing so Mr. Perkins expressed ivgret at their departure, and added taat the residents were glad to know they were not going to live very far away from their old home.
Cr. T. Woods, member for Pukekohe West on the Franklin Countv Council, added testimonv to sentiments voiced by Mr. Perkins, ami made some interesting remarks concerning the early history of the recipients, which was fully endorsed by all the old friends present. The recipients suitably responded. Supper was partaken of and duly appreciated. The singhf. of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and "Auld Lang Syne" terminated a mos.t successful function.
MANUREWA. At the next meeting- of the Manurewa Town Board it is intended to make and levy a general rate of in the £, and a Hospital and Charitable Aid rate of *4d in the £, also a separate rate of 5-Bthsd in the £ on all rateable property in No. 1 special rating area.
