LAST NlGHT>llie»«^^ The Franklin Rugby Union met last night, when there were presentsMessrs G. T. Proude (president). .1. Townsend, A. Wray, J. Beatty, | son, C. Molloy, W. Molloy, Jr. Dawe, 1. Murray and F. H.-Hewitt (secretary). Invitation. The Auckland Rugby Union invited a representative of the Franklin Union to dine with the Wellington representative team, holders of tlie Ranfurly Shield, at dinner at the Royal Hotel to-morrow night. The president was unable to attend, and the secretary was appointed to represent the union.

Mercer Withdraws. The Mercer club wrote asking leave to withdraw from the competition, and requested that members of the team be granted clearances to play for other clubs. On the motion of Messrs. Beatty and C. Molloy the clearance was granted, but members of the could not play for any other club under the jurisdiction of the Franklin Union. Clevedon Protest. The Clevedon club entered a protest against the action of the 'Pukekohe sentior team in playing Patumahoe junior against them on Kune 24. On the motion of Messrs. Wray and Townsend the match was awarded Clevedon on the casting vote of the chairman. An amendment by Messrs C. Mollov and Beattv that the pintest be dismissed and that Pukekohe get the match was defeated. Pukekohe's Appeal. The Pukekohe club appealed against the decision of the uni">n in awarding the match to have been plaved at Clevedon on June 5 between Clevedon and Pukekohe seniors, but which did not eventuate on account of the late arrival of the Pukekohe team due to a breakdown of a conveyance. The chairman said that as the minutes of thy previous pieeting had been confirmed notice of motion that the question be reopened would have to be civen. Mr. Beatty pave notice to move at next meeting that the matter be reopened)
