JERSEY BREEDERS

» COMMITTEE MEETING,

ANNUAL. SALE.

A committee meeting of the Jersey Breeders' Association, which was very well attended, was held in the A. and P. Office, Pukekohe, on Saturday, Mr. R. P. Wilkinson, president, occupying the chair. The following new member? were elected: — Messrs. A. Raynes, of Patumahoe; T. Brownlee, of Pukekohe; and Mr, W. Wright, of Puni.

The secretary (Mr. A. D. Stanley) reported on his visit to Hamilton re conditions of sales of pedigree cattle, one of which was that the stock auctioneers were asked to accept guinea bids for pedigree stock only. The chairman thought that the idea j of holding the local sale within a few days of the Waikato sale .Was not! practicable, because the former was being held too early. The number" of entries for the local sale were few, though all were not in, In regard to the location of sale, he thought Pukekohe should be the place, for there were 45 members in the surrounding district, including no place further north than Whangarata. As Pukekohe was one of the best dairying centres many of the cattle would not have to be trucked. Also, cattle trucked from a distance could be well paddocked and looked after at Pukekohe, but such accommodation was not available at Westfield. He moved that the sale be held at Pukekohe. Major Spragg supported, and contended that the Pukekohe showgrounds wus the place, as the cattle could be placed out to advantage, whereas if cattle were put in pens at Westfield buyers could get a view of their backs only. This was the right way to view. bejef stock, but not for dairy cattle.

Mr. R. Harper, of Woodhill, Kaipara line, said he was willing to enter stock if the sale was held at Pukekohe, to the extent of about six bulls and 14 females. Pukekphe was the centre of the district where the breed was most popular, and was not a dead-end like Westfield. It was .surrounded by buyers and sellers. Pukekohe decided on. Secretary to try and get showjjround. Several speakers supported the above.

It .was decided that Messrs. Buckland and Sons, and New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Companies should be met in regard to arranging which firm should sell, and that, if the former were chosen, Mr. Mitchell should sell, and if the latter, Mr. Hardwick sell.

The chairman, secretary, Messrs. McLennan, Jones, Barriball, Fulton and Sprague were appointed as a committee, to prepare catalogue, all members to be asked to send in entries within 14 days. In the ;ase of those not being conversant with pedigree forms, the secretary supply same at cost of 2s 6d each. This committee also to deal with the advertising. In regard to date, the Cf.mniittee recommended that the'date be during the last week in September or the first week in October, and the auctioneers to be advised accordingly.—Carried. The suggestion of the Milking Shorthorn Breeders (Franklin branch) to hold a combined sale was discussed favourably. It was thought that perhaps purebreds of all kinds could be entered, provided the owners were agreeable to abide by rules of the organised bodies. This view was approved • of. The Shorthorn breeders were to be communicated with immediately; aiso other breeders. • Mr. McLennan advocated that all members do their best to acquaint all interested with the sale.—Agreed to. Mr. D. R. Hamilton was appointed auditor.

A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. £. D. McLennan for his successful efforts towards the donation of prize moneys amounting to UO towards the Franklin show.
