Unanimous support of the policy to admit cement import free into New Zealand . was given at the Pukekohe Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night.

The Waiuku Chamber of Commerce is of the opinion that with five members only the ratepayers are not fully jepresenteu on the Waiuku Town hoard. The Chamber is asking that the number be increased to seven. The annual congregational meeting of the Pukekohe Presbyterian Charge is to take place in St. James' Church on Wednesday evening next. Interesting reports, we understand, are to be submitted, and the division of the charge will also be discussed. On account of the nature of the business to be transacted a large number of people is expected to be present. A good musical programme will be rendered. "We will take jobs and give up business and property." was- the tc"..our of discussion at the Pukekohe Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night, when notice of furthti claims by builders for increased award wages, on the basis of £1 per day of eight hours for casual labour, and £5 per week for permanent men, One member suggested that the council might form itself into a union.

A number of accidents caused by explosives have occurred locally during the past few days. A resident of Ptmi district accidentally threw a match into a keg of blasting powder, with the result that he was blown across the room, and his clothes practically burned off his body. He is now making good progress. Another mishap occurred at Maungatawhiri Valley, whereby the little son of Mr. and' Mrs. S. P. Pendergrast had part of two fingers blown off. It appears that he got hold of an ordinary number six commercial detonator, and was innocently warming it at a candle flame when it exploded. ■ In last Tuesday's issue of the "Times" mention was made of the intention of a Pukekohe firm of motor engineers to erect a new garage. It would seem that the motor business is prospering in Pukekohe, for we now learn that yet another new garage is to be erected by a well-known Auckland merchant, Mr. John W. Andrew. Mr. Andrew has purchased the corner section near the bowling green, formerly owned by Mr. Mahoney, and intends to erect thereon an up-to-date Ford garage as soon as he can obtain a permit from the Boajkl of Trade to build it. The purchaser is well-known and popular in the district, which will benefit by his commendable enterprise.
