KENNELLY HALL SITE

A PROTEST. Another turn in the Kennelly town hall site matter was disclosed at the Pukekohe Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night, by a letter from Mr. J. Kennelly's solicitors, dated July 7, reading as follows: "By deed of covenant, dated October 10, 1911, between the Pukekohe Town Board and Mr. Thomas Kenntfly, Mr. Kennelly gave the board a-quarter of an acre of land, fronting West Street, and the board covenanted that it would not use the land or permit it to be used for any purpose other than for a town hall, office, or business chambers to be used for carrying on the business of the board. . ,

"It appears that the Borough CouneU has arranged to build a town hall on another site, and that the land given is being used by the council as a dumping ground.

"The effect of this is not otvly a breach of the covenant, but also to depreciate the value of the adjoining land which belongs to him (Mr. Jas. Kennelly).

"He has no desire to create friction with the council, but is strongly of the opiaion that the land should not be used for the purpose named (rubbish dump). We agree with him in this, and shall, therefore, be glad to have an assurance that the rubbish will be removed, and the land no longer used as a rubbish dump/ Cr. R. Bilkey thought the ground should be cleaned up and the section sold. It was at present an eyesore in the main street.

Cr. H. Keith moved, and Cr. I). Morrow seconded, that the finance committee wait on Mr. Kennelly and see what arrangement could be arrived at.

Cr. J. Patterson said the rubbish that had been put on the section had amounted to about four feet in depth of idling, and had probably put many pounds extra ,»n the vakio of the section.
