MANUKAU COUNTY WORKS ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer (Mr, W. J. Lopdell) submitted the following report to the Manukau County Council on Tuesday last at their meeting in Auckland, The report was adopted. Mangere Riding. Most of the month the Reo lorry has been engaged patching up roads with scoria, having used over 300 cubic yards on various roads. Ascot Estate Road—Cr. House and myself met four settler® interested in the formation of a part of this road, It will also be neeessary to metal about 15 chains which is of soft formation. As this road will be required for the coming milking season, it will be necessary to start the work early, Mangere Crossing Water Loan. — An estimate has been prepared for this work, running into about £6OOO. Arrangements are being made to have the water laid to the properties of Messrs. Crawford and Court. I am making enquiries for a suitable boiler for breaking down bitumen, but so far have very little to select from. Pakuranga Riding. I have inspected Fortune's corner complained of by Mr. Massey, and find the old stone culvert has broken in. To replace this culvert with 9in. concrete pipes 60ft. in length will cost, including hauling of pipes, labour, etc., £ll 10s. Shaw Bros, are engaged grading sides of the Howick main road, cleaning the watertables. Road. Several have been put on this ,road;''J or maintenance. §;• Re, footpath - This mattier will be attended to as soon as ; theN shell arrives from the shingle Papakura Riding. Weymouth Road. —Kneebone's culvert has been replaced with a 2ft concrete pipe culvert. Palmer's Road has been watertabled as far as Mrs. Palmer's gate. General patching has been carried out on several of the roads. (jireat South Road. A portion of *tWs road has been patched with metal from Mornings-ide, there being still about 50 yards to come to complete the order. Re Mr. Wallace's Road at Taka-nini.—-So far it has not been convenient for Mr. Wallace and myself to meet on the ground. Papatoeioe Riding. Foreman Blank has bee.i most of the month engaged at the depot. The shed is progressing well, being up nearly the height of the walls. Owing to delay in delivery of the hopper sprocket, we have been unable to start the crushing for the Great South Road. Turanga Riding.—The Republic lorry has'spent a good portion of the month in hauling scoria for maintenance on the Tamaki-Howick Road. The Homestead bridge at Whitford is nearing completion. The contractor has been hindered for want of 1 cement. » Wairoa Riding. The watei tables have been graded and cleaned from Kiri Kiri to Clevedon South Post (Mice, also the sideroads. Parish Line.—The water from the i main road that has Jjeen the cause of silling up the ditoh at O'Hara's property is now carried right down to the main creek. A set of 9in. pipes has been put In on the East Road near Bailey's j bridge. ■ Otau Mountain Road. Messrs Barker and Oram have made a good j job of this road as far as the Government grant would go. They have ! ;dso given a few days' free labour j on the road. j 1 Momoukai Hill.—Cr. Luke and 1 j met ten settlers concerned in the j \ loan for metalling this load.
