MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. The Manukau County Council held their usual monthly meeting in Gleeson's Buildings, Auckland, on Tuesday last, when there were present: Crs. A. D. Bell (Wairoa Riding), chairman; S. W. House (Mani gere), J. Luke (Wairoa), A. Hattaway (Pakuranga), F. Waters (Papatoetoe), D. Reid (Papakura), J. H. Brownhill (Turanga), also the engineer (Mr. W. J. Lopdell), and the clerk (Mr. E. Ashcroft). Appointment of Ranger. , Much discussion was centred over tpointment of a ranger. „uke moved that a county ranwas secSricled by Cr. Reid and oarried. "" councillor:- ' Wairoa Riding is the most difficult to range, and could well do with a ranger of its own. - No seconder. Cr. Brownhill moved that the ranger be paid £2OO a year. Cr. Luke seconded. Cr. Hattawav: I think the ranger should be paid £l5O per year, and quite enough too.—No seconder, j The motion.was carried. Mangere Crossing Water Loan. A meeting was held in Mangere on Thursday night last, when about 25 settlers were present. Cr. House took the chair, and outlined the object of the meeting. Mr. Monk moved, and was seconded by Mr. Douglas, that it be an instruction from this meeting for the council to place the loan proposal before the ratepayers. -Carried unanimously. Mr. Kay also moved that the amount of the loan be £7OOO. This was seconded by Mr. Millar and carried unanimously. The "motion of Cr. House, seconded by Cr. Brownhill, was carried unanimously that the clerk write to ihe Minister for Internal Affairs for a permit to hold a poll of ratepayers for the loan of £7OOO. Personal. The lesignation of Mr. W. Lucas, foreman of the Papakura Riding, was received while the council was sitting. A motion was moved by the chairman ant! seconded by Cr. that his resignation be received with regret, and a testimonial be given by the council.-Carried unanimously. Wairoa Bridge Loan. The engineer asked that the matter be deferred for another two months. —Agreed to. Mechanical Tip Truck. It was moved that another motor mechanical tip truck be purchased, to be in use by the end of the present month. \ Cr. Waters: Now that you are ( thinking of buying another truck, where is the money to come from to pay for it ? • A voice: Out of the gtneral loan? account. ' *' • % The motion was 'carried unanimously. ' - Orere Deputation. * ' A deputation .Of Orere settlers, namely Messrs DavTs, Keaisey, Cashmore, and Rowlands: waited on the council in connexion 'yith the .damage done to roctds iff* the Harbout - Boafd. * It was decided upon that the council set up a committee with representatives of deputation to confer in the matter, and also that the council do all in its power to help them. |Vlore Power. Moved by Cr. Brownhill and seconded by Cr. House tjiat the engineer submit a" report at next general meeting of power required for another crusher.—Carried. Cor^pondeace. Letters were received from settlers of various ridiilgs, complaining of .the. bafl state*,-'of' certain loads dujing the recent heavy rains, and -thatjsome roads were quite unlit for vehicular trailic. Tlid complaints are to be dealt with in due course.
